Hello, I am Ashley. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of VA. I graduated from Regent University in 2013 and since have obtained certifications in Infant Mental Health, Play Therapy, and as a Certified Child and Adolescent Trauma Professional. I have experience providing counseling services to those all across the lifespan.  A focus of my work has been within the foster care system and with adoptive families.

Relationships and community support are a cornerstone to my foundation. I believe relationships are a powerful tool for growth and healing. In sessions with me, I enjoy assisting each individual becoming secure in their identity - their history, their place in the world, their strengths and weaknesses, their needs, their goals, and their potential.  In sessions with me, we will explore communication and how to maintain positive relationships with yourself and others. In sessions with me, we will explore what you need to enjoy life. We will explore realistic ways to take care of yourself and meet needs.

I believe connection with your therapist is important. Setting up a phone call with me is the first step. A brief overview about me is that I became a wife in 2004 and have 4 children. I do have personal experience as a foster and adoptive mom as well. I was born and grew up in Virginia but after married I moved to Arkansas. We have been back/forth a couple times and now in Virginia to stay!

Individual Therapy

Individual Therapy

Individual Therapy can be helpful in managing anxiety symptoms, depression symptoms, life transitions and stressors. Individual Therapy is also helpful in navigating relationships with your self and others or working through past trauma. Individual Therapy is a confidential, one-on-one space to explore challenges, identify values and goals, and build practical skills for your self care. I will walk alongside, supporting you in strengthening emotional resilience and improving overall well-being. We will work together to gain a better understanding of yourself.

Focus on Parenting

Focus on Parenting

Ideally the family is the safe base. No matter what the age I can assist parents with parenting strategies that may include ways to build connection, communication skills, understanding brain development, and discipline strategies. Parenting challenges come along side individual growth, individual reflection, our own "stuff", and challenges that come with every day life. Parenting Support can be in addition to your child receiving services outside of my practice or you may want support and resources to assist in your parenting approach.

Therapy for Therapist

Therapy for Therapist

I have the experience and enjoy working with other therapist. This field brings its own challenges as we navigate our purpose, life balance, preventing burn out, and changes that develop in us through this work. I will bring a relational and collaborative approach in exploring what you need to take care of yourself and honoring what you need through this season

Play Therapy

Play Therapy

I am a Registered Play Therapist, which means I have had additional training and continue to receive trainings each year in play therapy. Play therapy can be wonderful for all ages to build rapport and trust. I also have training and art techniques and sand tray that I may utilize. I am a strong believer in Play Therapy and the amazing therapeutic power. I have recently moved to Virtual Therapy only. I am learning, growing, and navigating Play Therapy in a Virtual World. You can call to discuss more about play therapy or find more information here: https://www.a4pt.org/page/ParentsCornerHomePag

LPC or RPT Supervision

LPC or RPT Supervision

I can provide supervision to residents in counseling in the state of VA. I am also a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor. I can provide the required supervision hours to obtain your RPT credential. Please contact me to discuss further and see if it is a good fit.

There are so many helpful resources available, we often just don't know where to start or look.  I get it can be overwhelming!  Since therapy is often only 1 hour a week I will encourage outside self work. I do not assign homework we will discuss what is most beneficial or realistic for you to utilize in between sessions.  I will often use and recommend several helpful resources.
